Miss Potter, 2006

This biopic from 2006 tells the story of probably the most famous children’s books author and artist, Beatrix Potter, starring Renee Zellweger, Ewan McGregor and Emily Watson.

The film begins in 1902, where Beatrix Potter, is of the age of early 30s, unmarried and living in a society obsessed with tradition, the roles of the sexes and marrying their offspring off before it is too late. She had sketched and painted since childhood, and finally gets the opportunity to publish her book ‘The Tale of Peter Rabbit’, meeting Norman Warne, the man who will make it happen. Throughout the film, settings switch between London and the Lake District and the audience gets to follow Beatrix’s personal story which would see her being a keen figure for the conservation of nature, in a very business driven setting.

This film is a beautiful story of a woman defeating tradition and making her own personal happiness happen no matter what other people’s opinions may be.
