Carrington, 1996

This biopic follows the life of painter Dora Carrington, who was associated with several members of the Bloomsbury group, and also follows the platonic relationship that she had with the writer Lytton Stratchey.

The film stars Emma Thompson, Johnathan Pryce, Steven Waddington, Samuel West, Rufus Sewell and Penelope Wilton, who all convey the lives of Carrington, Stratchey, Ralph Partridge, Gerald Brenan, Mark Gertler and Lady Ottoline Morrell.

Other story lines in the film include Strachey and Carrington’s separate love lives and how they set up house together to satisfy their strong emotional connection that could not be taken further due to Lytton’s homosexuality.

This films spans the entire friendship and love of the couple and presents loyalty and trust in an extraordinary way, firm and strong no matter the obstacle.

I would highly recommend this film as it represents the torture of not being with the person who you truly love and how to cope in other ways to become satisfied and whole.
